The Way To Your Heart Bloghop

Less Than Three Press is turning four years old and they're thus doing a bloghop. You can check out the masterpost HERE, with links to all the other wonderful authors participating.

So what do I love, besides writing? Reading, television, music, is what comes to mind. As the hop runs for fourteen days, I've decided to do a post for each of those three and spread it over the two weeks. Each post will also host a giveaway, so be on the look-out for them!

Let's start with the reading. I love to read, I always have. Years ago, when I still read and wrote in Norwegian, I used to read these serial historical romance novels popularly called 'housewife-porn'. I devoured so many of those series during the years, then got my mother hooked on them.

Now I'm reading exclusively in English, and almost exclusively m/m fiction. I tend to read what I write, so when I'm writing contemporary fiction, I normally read contemporary fiction. I have a one-track mind so if I read something outside of the genre I'm currently writing, it tends to ruin my momentum.

This is also true when it comes to tenses. If I write in 3rd person POV, I read 3rd person POV. If I read a 1st person POV, I tend to be inspired to write it. Still, I love to read and I can devour a book in a day. If it's a small book, I can certainly devour two.

I could list my favourite books and series, but that would take up several blog posts in itself because there are so many awesome authors out there and so many awesome books! I still have so many of those on my to-be-read list, so I should now get back to devouring them. First though, a little giveaway for you readers!

* * * GIVEAWAY * * *

One lucky commenter will win one (1) ebook of their choice from my backlist. All you have to do to be in the drawing is to tell me what you love most of all (it doesn't have to be reading books!) and leave me an e-mail so I can contact you. This giveaway will run until Saturday April 6th.

  1. *hops around the bloghop* If I had to pick, and it's a tough decision, I'd have to go with my cat. He's just so cuddly and always able to make me smile no matter how bad a day I've had. :3

Also, can't wait for tomorrow when Sakura Kiss is out!

    1. Aww, kitty. I don't have any animals currently, but I have had both cats and dogs. One cares so much about them! ^_^

      I'm nervous about tomorrow. :-P

  2. I love to read too! Love it...I read a lot! And I'm with you, I prefer 3rd person but I can also enjoy a well written 1st person. There are several go to authors that I read that are 1st person writers. But regardless, no matter how good or bad my day was, I can turn to a book to make me smile.

  3. What do I love most of all? That's a tough one. Probably mac and cheese. It's a comfort food for sad days and a reward food for good days. I could eat it at every meal and every time I find a new recipe that doesn't also contain meat I have to try cooking it.

Like you, I find myself sticking to genres when I read and write. When I'm reading a mystery I write mysteries or when I'm writing a fantasy story I read fantasy books. If I don't stick to that I lose whatever thread I was following in my writing and reading, which causes the dreaded writers block every time.

    1. Oh yeah, comfort food. I love to eat comfort food, but I hate making it. :-P Glad to hear I'm not the only one sticking to genres! Not sticking to genres triggers writer's block to me too, and I wan't to avoid that at all costs. ^_^

    2. Sometimes the mac and cheese that I just pop into the microwave makes it into my shopping cart too. It's for days when cooking is just too much work!

Writers block is evil. Not only do I stick to genres, I also have a special writing spot for whenever I feel it coming.

  4. Just like you, I have various loves. One of which is my love for Japanese manga/anime. I'm your typical Naruto, Bleach, Kuroshitsuji, 07Ghost, Kaze no Stigma, Rurounin Kenshin lover.

They keep me entertained, make me happy and I find them utterly engaging :).

    1. Ahhh, anime. I used to watch it a few years ago. Sadly, I stopped as I didn't have time. I should definitely start again though, because there's a lot of entertaining anime! ^_^

  6. It's so cool how the different formats we read can inspire new works. I'm a big reader myself so I can understand completely how the different POV can move you to try a new style. :D

    1. Happy to hear I'm not the only one feeling like that :-D It's so easy to be sidetracked by tenses or POV, so I need to stay on the track I'm writing. :-P

  8. I love music. I don't have a lot of time to do things I would like but I can listen to music on the run and not have it interfere with anything.

  9. I also almost exclusively read M/M now, especially contemporary. And I can't mix genres when I write either. Btw, I'm writing a medical story for Love Has no Boundaries and it's a first for me. Any recs for medical M/M books to read on the side?
As for what I like most, I have to say I decided to post about my love for art. It's something I've always loved ever since I was a kid. I have lots of other loves though - kpop and jrock and Korean variety shows, Dr. Who and Castle and police shows in general, baking and crafting, crocheting and DYI (though I guess that's crafting too), the Dune series which is my most loved book, making my own manicure and, of course, pets and books.
That's one awesome giveaway,. I'll join in, if you don't mind shayla.mist@gmail.com

    1. A fellow m/m contemporary reader! Can't say I've read many medical stories. I do love Collision Course by K.A. Mitchell, where one of the MCs is an EMT, but I'm not sure I would call it medical. No Boundaries, also by her, features a doctor met in CC.

Kpop and Korean, yes! I second this.

  10. I love reading too! I'm trying to express my love for so many things. Since my dog just jumped in my lap, I gotta say I love dogs. They can tell that I love them, too. When I see a dog, even my own, I start smiling immediately.

I also love my iPhone, iPad, MacBook Air, and Mac Mini, even though they are old!

  11. Reading and cats are my standard answer and are even better together. Running is also good but a bad combination when added to either reading or cats. (:

  12. The thing I love most is my boyfriend. I know, cheesy and juvenile. But he's a bad boy and I'm a good girl, and I'm a hopeless romantic at heart (hence my writing). <3

  16. If what you love doing the most is demonstrated with what you spend the most money on most frequently, then you can easily see: it's reading!

That was so interesting about how you read influencing what you write. I'd never heard anyone state this in quite this way before, even down to the voice you were inspired to use. Very cool.

    Thanks!
